Dokolo Court Holds District Community Service Committee Meeting
Members of the Dokolo District Community Service Committee
On Wednesday Dokolo court held its District Community Service Committee meeting at the Court premises chaired by HW Dr Irene Namae (Magistrate Grade 1).
In her remarks, Dr. Namae defined a community service order, who grants it and when is it given, who qualifies for such an order and why the order is granted. She mentioned that such orders are usually granted in petty cases and where the accused is a first-time offender. She noted that these orders are key in rehabilitating offenders and their integration back to the community, let alone lessening pressure on jail systems in the Country.
It was noted that in the 4th quarter of 2023/24, over 21 orders were granted out of 60 convictions. Ms Esther Agenerwot, the District Community Service Committee meeting officer explained how the offenders are supervised and noted that only 2 defaulted.
In attendance were the RDC, DPC, OC Station CPS, District OC CID, OC Prisons, District Probation officer, Resident Senior state Attorney, CLO, DISO among others.
The RDC expressed gratitude to HW Irene Namae for always convening such vital meetings and noted that community service is having a positive change in Dokolo and that she is also a beneficiary of community service.
It was resolved that there should be scaled up community sensitization and with this the RDC and DPC offered part of their Radio airtime to Judiciary to sensitise court users on such court processes and procedures.
